The CA program provides soldiers with up to $2,000 per year to earn industry-recognized certifications, including drone technology credentials. Clemson Drone offers two Army CA-approved courses designed to enhance your career in unmanned aircraft systems (UAS):

For soldiers looking for a foundational drone training program, UAS Essentials can be fully funded through the Army CA program. However, those who want the most comprehensive UAS training should consider UAS Vocation, which provides advanced certifications, live instructor support, and UAS thermography training. Since UAS Vocation exceeds the $2,000 CA cap, soldiers can combine CA with Tuition Assistance (TA) to cover the full cost.

UAS Essentials
As the name suggests, this fully online course provides comprehensive instruction on the essential aspects of operating a UAS in the national airspace. The course starts with the same curriculum and content as the Part 107 Exam Prep course. You will then move into flight training with our cutting-edge simulator. You will fly over 50 unique missions to learn stick control and how to operate a UAS. There are 14 drones in our library simulating how different aircrafts navigate real-world environments. The software and USB-connected controller are provided with the course. Finally, you will learn how to collect drone images and turn them into 3D maps, models, and surveys. You will also learn how to determine quantities from the data and share digital 3D as-builts with clients and customers. The course is not robo-graded. Dr. Burgett reviews your assignments and provides customized feedback unique to you. Classes start monthly. ​

UAS Vocation
As the cornerstone of our comprehensive UAS training program, this fully online course provides a structured pathway for individuals new to drone technology. ​ The course spans 8 weeks and is designed to build a strong foundation in UAS operations, integrating in-depth instruction, practical exercises, and personalized feedback from the instruction.
This course is similar to the UAS Essentials course but has several key differences. First, you will be invited to weekly Zoom calls with Dr. Burgett, giving you the opportunity to ask questions and get immediate feedback. You will also have extended access to the flight simulator and the opportunity to earn the APSA BPERP flight proficiency certification. Finally, this course also contains three weeks focusing on UAS Thermography. At the end of the course, you will become a Level 1 UAS thermographer. Classes start every other month.
